About Zeolite

What is Zeolite?
Zeolites are hydrated aluminosilicate mineral combinations which have a unique “open” micro-porous molecular structure often described as a honeycomb. There are many forms of zeolite. In fact there are 48 naturally occurring zeolites known and more than 150 synthesized zeolite types.

Natural zeolites form where volcanic ash layers react with alkaline groundwater. Typically zeolite crystals are found in shallow, saline marine basins that have formed over periods of millions of years.  The slow leaching of chemicals over time through mineral water create this family of microporous solids that act as molecular sieves which are natural chelators, having the ability to be used as tools for cation  exchange. Natural zeolites have the advantage over synthetic zeolites of having superior crystalline structures with “pores” or “cages” of dimensions suitable for many varied purposes. The carrying dimensions of the “cages” increase with time and purity of the surrounding environment.

The ability of zeolites to trap, carry and release minerals is put to use everyday to help us clean-up the environment and make it a safer, less toxic place to live in. Some examples of current uses are:

Water, Oxygen and other chemical purifications  For everyday commercial, medicinal and domestic use.
Agriculture  As a slow release agent for fertilizer ingredients and water retention in the soil.
Animal Welfare  To improve feed conversions and dramatically reduce ammonia emissions into the air.
Nuclear Waste Reprocessing  To encapsulate waste fission materials for safer disposal.

About Natural Extracts Australia
Natural Extracts Australia is a wholly owned Australian Company and a world-wide leader in zeolite micronisation technology for measurably better results. After nearly 7 years of intensive research we are proud to offer you our products. We also have over 10 years experience working with other Australian minerals, oils and other natural extracts.

Ongoing Research
Many new progressive medical and clinical trials are being conducted to determine how the many purification, carrying, and distributing properties of zeolites can be of benefit in human health and nutrition. Natural Extracts Australia is supporting this research by making ZeoActiv8™ available as a primary source of zeolite for human use. We are also staying up-to-date with research developments and information leaflets will be updated regularly for your information.

We are also dedicated to continue our endeavours in research, development and marketing of an increasingly better range of personal products that are eco safe and efficient. This is in direct response to the ever more demanding needs of our health care professionals, our individual consumers and our industrial clients.

Why Australian Zeolite?

The Australian zeolite used to prepare ZeoActiv8 is known by the mineral name Clinoptilolite – a hydrated sodium potassium calcium aluminium silicate ((Na, K, Ca)2 - 3Al3(Al, Si)2Si13O36-12H2O). It is one of the more useful natural zeolites and is the preferred choice for use where purification, separation and distribution of minerals and other contaminants is the key use.

For example, in agriculture, clinoptilolite is used as a soil treatment as it provides a source of slowly released potassium, The zeolite is loaded with the required nutrients and absorbs up to 55% of its weight in water, slowly releasing the solubulised minerals according to plant demand.

Another major use for Clinoptilolite is as an additive to feed for cows, pigs, horses and chickens. It absorbs toxins in the feed that are created by molds and microscopic parasites and enhances food absorption by these animals. Similar uses in human foods and supplements are currently being researched. Clinoptilolite can easily absorb ammonia and other toxic gases from air and water and thus can be used in filters, both for health reasons and for odor removal.

Clinoptilolite is well suited for these applications due to its large amount of pore space, high resistance to extreme temperatures and chemically neutral basic structure. Research studies have shown Australian Clinoptilolite Zeolite to be denser and substantially better in purity aspects having come from a naturally pristine deposit 300 million years old.

There are few geographical sites worldwide that can claim to be so free of contamination by airborne and water pollutants. The denser structure, is created by a more uniform lattice with a more defined ability to pick up certain cations. Once milled, Australian Zeolite has a smoother, harder finish with uniformly sized pores, which prove to be more efficient in their purpose.

Clinoptilolite is recognised as being ‘non hazardous’ and does not require any special handling instructions.
